Spoiler warning: The following content contains unhidden spoilers. Read at your own risk.

Romance is an optional feature in Baldur's Gate 3. The player can start a romantic relationship with several different characters, be it a brief fling or long-term. Some relationships can find their peak in sexual scenes, while others will follow different paths.

Characters can show interest in the player regardless of race and gender. More significant relationships will occur only with companions. Romance is available in multiplayer, but players will not be able to start a romance with each other.

It is possible to be in a relationship with one of the Origin characters Karlach, Shadowheart, or Astarion, as well as in a relationship with Halsin. Other characters will not consent to being in a polyamorous relationship, and further, the player cannot be in a polyamorous relationship that includes multiple Origin characters. Companions will not initiate any polyamory on their own with other characters.

There are also some sexual encounters the player can initiate with characters who are not companions.

Astarion[edit | edit source]

Main article: Astarion/romance

Romance - Baldur's Gate 3 Wiki (17)Astarion's romance contains sensitive content, including mentions of or allusions to physical or emotional abuse, sexual violence, drugs or alcohol, and realistic or graphic violence.

After flirting with Astarion, he will suggest sleeping together during a long rest in any area in Act One, which will initiate his romance. This will also occur during the tiefling or goblin celebration; if the player has high enough approval, Astarion will be receptive to the player asking to have a "night of passion" with him, otherwise he will only join the player if they persuade him to "say 'please'".[Needs Verification]

Gale[edit | edit source]

Main article: Gale/romance

As early as Act One (if the player has Medium approval), the player can trigger a scene with Gale where he talks to the player about Mystra. During the scene, Gale will offer to share with the player being under the weave, and if the player successfully passes all the checks, they may envision holding hands or kissing Gale for approval points.

Halsin[edit | edit source]

Main article: Halsin/romance

Halsin's first scene may occur during Act Three. If the player has high enough approval, and has successfully completed Lift the Shadow Curse before embarking on the Road to Baldur's Gate, Halsin will express his desires before going to bed during a long rest.

Karlach[edit | edit source]

Main article: Karlach/romance

Karlach's first scene can occur during Act One. If the player has medium approval[Needs Verification] they can drum up the courage to tell her how much they like her. This will lead to Karlach meeting them after everybody else is asleep. As Karlach's infernal engine is still too hot during Act One, the player will not be able to touch her. They can convince her, however, to kiss them - which they can either end sooner, or embrace the moment, only to burn their lips.

Lae'zel[edit | edit source]

Main article: Lae'zel/romance

Lae'zel's first scene can occur during Act One. She finds the player's martial prowess endearing, and will offer a night of debaucherous pleasure. Depending on conversation choices, the engagement may continue into future acts, with more dialogues and scenes.

Minthara[edit | edit source]

Main article: Minthara/romance

Minthara's first scene can occur during Act One. If the player sided with her and the goblins, during the celebratory party Minthara will offer the player a night of pleasure. Otherwise, Minthara's romance can begin in Act Two, if she survived and is recruited after reaching Moonrise Towers.

Shadowheart[edit | edit source]

Main article: Shadowheart/romance

Shadowheart's romance can begin during Act One. If the player has at least medium approval, she will propose a drink in private during a long rest or during the celebratory party after saving the tieflings (but not the goblins). The player and Shadowheart will drink wine, have a deep conversation, and can choose to kiss at the end of the night, away from camp.

If this opportunity is missed, her romance can be initiated with the dialogue line "I can't help but feel like you and I might have missed a chance to connect. Truly connect.", after it appears.

Wyll[edit | edit source]

Main article: Wyll/romance

Wyll's romance can begin in Act One, during the celebratory party after saving the tieflings (but not the goblins), if he has at least medium approval. Wyll and the player can share a kiss.

Non-companions[edit | edit source]

Sorn and Nym Orlith[edit | edit source]

Main articles: Sorn Orlith and Nym Orlith

Sorn and Nym Orlith are twins and courtesans at Sharess' Caress, a brothel just outside Baldur's Gate. The player can pay 500 gold to sleep with one of them, though their solo services are only available if a romanced companion is in the party. If the player has a romanced companion or companions in the party, the twins will offer to both sleep with the player and their partner(s) for 1000 gold instead. However, most companions will refuse until their personal quests have been completed, save Karlach, who always refuses.

To sleep with them, any party members not involved must be sent to camp or ungrouped from the main character before you can initiate the scene. Note that this scene is not animated, and takes place in the dark.

Sorn and Nym's services are also a potential reward for completing the quest Find the 'Stern Librarian' Ffion.

Mizora[edit | edit source]

Main article: Mizora's romance

Players can engage in a one-night stand with Mizora during Act Three, only if Wyll is in the party. If the player is romancing Gale, Lae'zel, Wyll or Minthara, they will end the relationship.

Naoise[edit | edit source]

Naoise is a courtesan working at Sharess's Caress in Wyrm's Crossing. She can be found on the third floor in her room, Nymph's Grotto.

Haarlep[edit | edit source]

Main article: Haarlep's romance

Haarlep is an incubus under the employ of Raphael. They can be found in the House of Hope during Act Three. Approaching them will trigger a conversation where the player can sleep with them, however, this is not without its consequences.

The Emperor[edit | edit source]

Main article: The Emperor's romance

After completing the quest Visit the Emperor's Old Hideout, the Emperor will have a conversation with the player during a long rest. As long as the player is receptive to the Emperor's advances, conclusions to this scene will allow the player to engage in more intimate activities with it.

Inter-character relationships[edit | edit source]

After dealing with the Goblin-Druid Grove conflict in Act One, if the player does not spend the night with Lae'zel she will do so with either Astarion or Wyll - as long as they are still in the camp.

Dark Urge specific scenes[edit | edit source]

The following scenes are only available while playing as The Dark Urge origin character.
