What is Champion Mastery?

Starting out, we’re going to explain champion mastery to you. Long story short, Champion mastery tracks the progression of a specific champion in terms of familiarity, skill, and experience.

With champion mastery, there are a total of 7 mastery levels.

You’ll need certain items to craft a Mastery badge, such asBlue Essence, Hextech Crafting, and Mastery tokens.

Each LoL player will start off with 0 mastery points. As you win games and progress, you will earn what is called champion points (CP), which will be added to your mastery level.

The number of champion points you earn all depends on your performance in the game you played.

How Does this Work?

League of Legends Mastery – A Complete Guide (1)

After every game you play, you will earn one of the following grades:

S+, S, S-, A+, A, A-, B+, B, B-, C+, C, C-, D+, D, D-

When you first grab a champion, you’re going to start out with a zero mastery score and a mastery level of 0.

Once you have started to play, the champion you’re playing on will earn points based on the grade you receive per match, increasing your mastery level.

Naturally, the higher the grade is, the higher amount of champions points you’re going to receive. If you have a premade party that you play with, since you have more members, this will also give you a higher percentage of champion mastery points.

Working your way through the ranks from mastery level 0 up to mastery level 5 shouldn’t be all that hard, as long as you continuously play a specific champion.

Every time your mastery level increases, this will give you a different design on your mastery badge.

Let me give you an example:

The level 2 badge design is different compared to the design on the level 4 badge.

As soon as you reach mastery levels 5, 6, and 7, the game will start to get interesting in terms of the mastery system. The mastery system involves much more than simply playing the game to earn points. Players need to demonstrate their skill and familiarity with the champion through grade performance.

Why S Grades are Important Once You Reach Level 5 Mastery

S+ is the highest grade you can get in LOL, and it isn’t exactly easy to earn this grade, so if you earn it, pat yourself on the back.

S grades are essential because they are necessary once you have reached level 5 mastery. For level 4 mastery and below, the S grades aren’t as important because they’re not needed if you want to go from a level 3 mastery to a level 4 mastery. However, for a level 5 mastery, you’ll need to receive at least two S- grades if you’re looking forward to upgrading to a level 6 mastery.

Once you have worked your way up to level 6 mastery, you will need to receive three S or S+ grades to move to level 7 mastery.

Once you have reached level 7 mastery, you should be proud of yourself because this is the highest tier of all mastery levels.

Hold up, we’re not done here. The mastery system for levels 6 and 7 will require you to spend a total of 2,450 Blue Essence to unlock the succeeding level.

A Look at mastery Level Rewards

You’re putting a lot of hard work into earning that S grade, but don’t worry because it’s not a waste of time. As soon as you reach master level 4, you will receive a set of rewards.

The rewards you receive will depend on your mastery level – you’ll receive different rewards for different ranks.

In this section, we’re going to go over the rewards for each respective rank:

How to Get a High Grade in LoL?

League of Legends Mastery – A Complete Guide (3)

If you’re wondering what makes you get an S+, S, or S apart from getting an A+, A, or A=, let us explain …

Many times, players are putting their attention to the number of kills or deaths they receive per match. More deaths and lesser kills will result in a better chance of you getting an S grade and getting more mastery tokens.

Okay, so here’s the thing – Champion Mastery and getting a high grade isn’t as easy as simply getting – deaths and 25 kills. Sure, focusing on this may get you an A+, but that’s probably about it.

If you’re looking toearn an S+ in LoL, there are four metrics to consider.

Your Creep Score

Believe it or not, those tiny minions running around on the map play a big role in the game. Racking up on that Creep Score isn’t exactly easy, and no one out there knows exactly how many you need. We feel getting around eight minion kills per minute will do the job. This should be consistent from beginning to end, so make sure you’re running around the map getting minion kills even while completing objectives and destroying enemy turrets.

K/D/A

This stands for Kills, Deaths, and Assists. However, putting focus towards kills and deaths isn’t enough to get you an S grade in LoL (we mentioned this earlier).

This will also depend on the role you have chosen as a player. For example, if you chose a support champion, then your assists will matter more. However, if you chose a tank champion, then those kills and assists would matter.

This isn’t all – as an LoL player, you will be required to complete objectives in time, such as beating jungle monster and placing Wards before the game comes to an end.

Damage Dealt

If you’re a carry champion, then the amount of damage you do is essential. For a tank champion, the damage taken is what matters.

An individual that chooses a tank as their champion will stand in the front lines tanking the damage while their teammates stand back and deal damage.

Mind you; this isn’t saying that tanks are simply sacrificial pieces, but due to their large amount of health, they can take on more hits than the other champions.

When it comes to damage taken/dealt, earning an S grade should be consistent throughout the entire match. If this were to fall behind, this could have an impact on your overall grade.

Vision Score

Your Vision score depends on a couple of things: which enemy wards you go out and destroy and where you place your wards.

You must properlyplace your wardsbecause this will allow you to grant vision to those unseen monsters and enemies lurking around the map. Also, when you destroy enemy wards, this will take away your opponents’ ability to find you. Therefore, it’s a good idea to get rid of your opponent’s wards, but at the same time, it’s also important that you properly place your own.

We understand, the game looks like it’s about destroying the base and team fights, but it goes deeper than this – it requires a lot of strategy, completing objectives within a specific timeframe, and good map control.

Objective Damage

High objective damage is the final metric of champion mastery. While you’re playing League of Legends, you will need to complete specific objectives such as slaying epic monsters, destroying enemy turrets, gaining buffs from killing elemental drakes, and so on.

The amount of damage you deal during these objectives is going to affect your grade.
