Baldur's Gate 3 offers an abundance of loot, including spell scrolls, gold, rare armor, and powerful weapons. As the game progresses, loot becomes increasingly valuable and worth seeking out. With countless treasure chests scattered around hidden areas awaiting discovery, players can easily miss some of the game's most precious items.
The Chest of the Mundane disguises its contents as ordinary objects. At first glance, it seems filled with trivial junk, yet in reality, holds several valuable items: Mystra's Grace, Scrolls of Mage Armor and Protection from Evil and Good, a Gold Ingot, and a Hearthlight Bomb. These treasures, appearing as mere silverware, can easily be overlooked by players unaware of their true worth, potentially missing out on significant assets.
Due to changes in BG3 Patch 1, items stored inside the mundane chest no longer reduce in weight, and the chest's weight has increased from 20kg to 100kg. This update eliminates its previous utility as a makeshift 'bag of holding', a once popular inventory management trick.

The Chest Is Inside the Arcane Tower Within The Underdark
Accessing the chest and its hidden treasures requires journeying through the Underdark in Act 1, en route to the Shadow-cursed Lands. If you choose to travel via the Mountain Pass, you can still return to the Underdark before progressing to Act 2. This ensures no missed opportunities for exploration and acquiring loot in both key areas of Act 1.
The Chest of the Mundane is located on the northern balcony of the Arcane Tower's first floor, within the Underdark's southwest region. Players must navigate to the tower and fix the Arcane Tower elevator in BG3, enabling them to reach the first floor and discover the chest.
How To Reach The Arcane Tower
The easiest route to the Arcane Tower is from the Underdark Beach Waypoint. Head east, and ascend the netted rope. Follow the wooden path until you reach an incline, jumping across the gap. Proceed to the right up the stairs, avoiding the mushrooms to prevent them from exploding. Upon reaching the tower's courtyard, you'll encounter two Arcane Turrets that must be bypassed.
To disable the Arcane Turrets, have your party crouch to observe the turrets' line of sight and employ ranged attacks that deal Lightning Damage.
To power the Arcane Tower, you must activate a Generator, located in the tower's basem*nt. While the front doors on the ground level offer direct access, they're defended by additional turrets. As the elevator can't be used to descend, your optimal route involves leaping across the flora on the tower's south side. Start by jumping onto a pink mushroom-like platform, then continue hopping to adjacent platforms until you reach the tower.
Utilize Feather Falling or teleportation spells like Misty Step to safely traverse the platforms, avoiding Fall Damage.
Navigate around the corner to locate the tower and employ your thief in BG3 to lockpick the doors. Before entering, venture west to the Sussur tree to collect a Sussur Bloom, essential for restoring the tower. Interact with the Generator by transferring the flower from your inventory to the empty slot.
Restoring the Arcane Tower deactivates the remaining turrets, deeming the tower safe to explore. Proceed to the ground level via the stairs and enter the now-functional elevator. Ascend to the first floor to discover the Chest of the Mundane.
